Top Methods to Train Employees Using Technology

Technology based training sessions are more communicative, easily comprehensible and exciting to the employees.

In the year 2020, upon joining my Fourth job I went through a one week training programme aimed at getting us acquainted to the work culture, working style, ethics among other things of the company. As part of our orientation, for six straight days we were seated in a training room where one by one several intellectuals with brilliant oratory skills gave 2 hour long sermons on ethics and policies. Worse at it may sound, but I was barely able to comprehend even 20% of what was being told.

The sad part is not that the existing methods of orientation and training were incompetent, but the fact that even though a decade has passed since my training and the industry is still stuck in the past, using the same age-old techniques for employee training

With the advent of mobile based learning and other innovative methodologies the entire training industry is slated for a paradigm shift. The need of the hour for organizations and HR managers is to leverage technologies to train employees better and embrace it for making training sessions more communicative, easily comprehensible and above all exciting

Below is the list of top technologies and teaching methods I feel will have a profound impact on training practices:

1.Mobile learning.

According to E-Marketer “Mobile learning will soon be the most conventional medium to reach the new workforce, which is more tech-savvy and digitally connected. It’s estimated that the mobile learning industry will grow to over $37 billion by 2020.” Increasing use of movable devices like laptops, tablets and mobile phones have inspired organization to grasp mobile learning technologies for their employee training. This technology gives employee freedom of complete training on the go. New age employees are now being trained in real time using state of the art content delivery techniques.

2.Audio-Visual training.

“A picture tells a thousand words” is true for all of us. Almost all of us have been using YouTube, skype and other video streaming devices for some or the other reason. Advances in the field of audio and visual training technologies and easy access to internet are encouraging organizations across the board to invest in Audio-Visual training methods. Apart from being cost effective these training modules also provide flexibility and accessibility to the employees.

3.Virtual Reality

VR is booming and organizations are taking note of the potential Virtual Reality holds in training applications. These days many of them are considering platforms such as second life, Minecraft, Unity, etc. for training their employees. They are creating virtual atmosphere to bring the human touch into their e-learning environment. Corporations like IBM and Cisco are already using virtual platforms for meetings, interviews, and employee training. With the help of Online 3-D virtual environments (VEs) Virtual reality employees are easily dealing with information. Using virtual avatars in training is the ‘in’ method to train young blood.

4.Automation and adaptive learning.

Content providers and Learning Management System providers are using a huge number of self-operating solutions to create new courses and learning materials, reducing the cost and development hours required in the traditional process. Authoring tools and platforms helps you to find templates, themes, and other related resources that are needed for eLearning. With this one can also automatically detect employee preferences, needs and tailor their eLearning experience accordingly.

5.Big Data.

These days organizations are also taking help of external big data analytic s tools or the ones, which are built into a variety of Learning Management Systems to gather insights about their employees’ usage patterns, behavior and effectiveness of training courses. This is helping them to create a customized and personalized training courses based on facts and insights.

6.Microlearning:

This helps employees become more competent and skilled in the digital workplace. This involves informal and digital training delivered through videos, quizzes, text messages, games or other modes

Conclusion

the importance of training employees in technology cannot be overstated. By investing in technology training, organizations can empower their workforce, foster innovation, and position themselves for success in an increasingly digital world. As technology continues to evolve, the need for ongoing training and development will remain paramount, ensuring that employees remain equipped to thrive in the digital age
